We bitch all the time about our government and the legislators both in Washington and our state houses. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that it takes a lot of money to run for political office.
It also doesn’t take a brain surgeon to figure out that when you give money to a politician you expect something in return for your investment. Because that’s what it is an investment! Everyone knows that lobbyist with all their money and all the former legislators in their employ that money talks and bullshit walks.
What we need is a way to take the money out of politics. The only way to do that is to have a constitutional amendment passed that will be simple and clear and written by our best legal minds from both parties that will stop any entity or person from participating in any election that they cannot vote in.
An amendment that states:
ONLY A PERSON (entity) WHO CAN VOTE IN AN ELECTION CAN PARTICIPATE IN ANY WAY AT ALL IN THAT ELECTION
Keep it simple. Keep it plain.
What bothers me the most about elections today is the outside entities who influence a local election with big money donations from outsiders. If you have a county election only voters in that county should be able to participate. In a state election only voters of that state should be able to participate. In a city election only city voters should be allowed to participate.
By limiting any participation at all to voters we will be able to make sure no big money will influence the election. It’s good for everyone, every community to have the type of government and legislation they want no matter what others in another community want. A constitutional amendment would be passed state by state and would make sure where ever you live the government would reflect your views and values.
The real bonus would be taking the money out of elections. Most of that big money has your best interest in mind. Sure they do!
