Fracking is just like all the rest of the problems we chose to ignore until there is a catastrophe and then we finally react. There will be disgust. There will be disbelief. There will also be those who will say it’s just a rare problem and it will never happen again!
I am talking about air and ground pollution that will almost certainly happen with fracking. We just have to look at who is so adamant about the procedure.
We all know that the oil companies are the ones pushing for fracking. We all know we can rely on them to tell us the truth. We all know they have a great record when it comes to the environment. The Gulf of Mexico spill. The PrudoBay Alaska spill. Numerous pipeline breaks throughout the world. We cannot even get the companies doing the fracking to tell us what chemicals they are using in the process of fracking.
Our legislators who are bought and paid for by big oil won’t force them to divulge what chemicals they use. We will find out when they show up in the bodies of our citizens. Why else would they not want us to know what chemicals are used in fracking? Certainly this happened with every source of energy. Coal with the black lung disease and smoke was a real health problem. Nuclear power was fine until a few disasters opened our eyes. Oil was and is only a spill away from major disaster. All the while we ignore the renewable sources of energy because of the almighty dollar and big oil’s desire to become totally in control.
While the rest of the world including the Chinese are making great strides toward renewable energy, the USA is continuing to make big profits for big oil. If you think about the supply of oil and natural gas it is finite. There will be an end to it.
Why do the oil and gas companies persist with the idea that we cannot live without their product? It’s pretty simple because that’s how they make their money. As with all of us their opinion is slanted by their needs! Money! They employ surrogates to spread their gospel for them.
But there is an end to the supply and it is coming sooner than later. In the mean time I hope we don’t destroy the earth along the way. We are a country of over reactors and as with everything we will only act when it’s critical to our well being.
One thing is for sure. We will bitch up a storm when this happens.
We’ll say we didn’t know.
